Cleo’s Big Find

For fun, Cleo Redding and her Mom sometimes went to a local thrift store.

One time, her Mom found several Paul Revere pots and pans. Cleo didn’t even know that Paul Revere made pots and pans until she saw his cookware with his insignia on the bottom of it. It amazed her. When he wasn’t warning people that the British were coming, he was making pots and pans.

The thrift store felt like a magical place where she never knew what she might find. It was like a museum, except that here she could touch everything and take some things back with her for a small price. She never knew what she was looking for, but if she liked something, she knew it as soon as she saw it (or as soon as she read its markings and discovered it was valuable).

During this visit, as usual, she started with her favorite section that had all the shelved art pieces and framed artworks. Here she saw something that immediately caught her attention. It was a model of a pyramid. It was ceramic and painted white all over with a bright gold cap on top. Perhaps this is what the Great Pyramid of Giza once looked like? she wondered.

This pyramid was not just a model though. It was also a coin bank. It had a slot on one side for adding coins and there was a rubber cap on the bottom for removing the coins without breaking the bank. She shook it gently. There were no coins inside now.

She looked at the price. Two dollars. She showed it to her mother, and she agreed to buy it for her. She even complimented her on such an interesting find.

Cleo had a big find today, as big as the Great Pyramid of Giza itself. She imagined it was a special gift just for her, Cleo, also known as Cleopatra, from her dream ancient homeland of Egypt.

Reference Note:

The Great Pyramid of Giza is one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World; it is considered to be the oldest of the seven.

  1. I actually purchased some really cool Egyptian souvenirs in a thrift store. One of a small embossed metal plate, one embossed metal tray, and a reproduction painting. It was a great day when I purchased most of the artwork hanging in my bedroom.
